Before the advent of social media, you’d have probably never heard of the man who is credited with saving three missing Cleveland women so rapidly. But as of this writing, “Charles Ramsey” is a Twitter trend, and for a 9-11 call that makes the dispatcher look like a food, and an interview that’s so totally racially honest, you’ve got to laugh at it.
And now, the story.
According to NBC News, Charles Ramsey heard screams coming from a home on Seymour Avenue in Cleveland, and went to investigate. What Mr. Ramsey eventually found were women who were missing in three separate cases ten years ago.
“This girl is kicking the door and screaming,” Charles Ramsey told NBC station WKYC-TV. “So I go over there … and I say, ‘Can I help? What’s going on?’ And she says, ‘I’ve been kidnapped, and I’ve been in this house a long time. I want to leave right now.'”
Ramsey, who lived next door, told reporters that he’d barbecued with the 52-year-old man who owned the house, and so was shocked to learn what he discovered. But didn’t stop him from calling 9-11, letting the woman call 9-11, and getting the police to come over and help the women get out.
The woman who screamed out was Amanda Berry, and she had been kidnapped in the house along with 23-year-old Gina DeJesus and 30-year-old Michelle Knight. They had been missing for 10, eight and 11 years, respectively.
When police arrived, the arrested the man and his brothers were arrested.
