Black Football Head Coach Hiring: Stanford 3, Cal 0

Black Football Head Coach Hiring: Stanford 3, Cal 0 Gotta say it. Looks really bad for Cal Football to have never hired a black head football coach. Not that new Cal Football Head Coach Sonny Dykes is bad hire, but when this blogger learned we passed on Hue Jackson, it took the luster off the selection of Dykes.

This, even with the fact that there are more well-qualified black candidates than ever before, like Hue Jackson or Stanford Defensive Coordinator Derrick Mason.

Meanwhile, Stanford has no problem hiring black head football coaches: Dennis Green, Tyrone Willingham (who should have stayed at Stanford, rather than go to Notre Dame), and David Shaw.

Combined, their record against Cal is a shocking 12 and 0. That’s right: Cal has never beaten a Stanford team when the Stanford Football Coach was black. Just saying.

So Cal gets punked three times: by not hiring a black coach, while Stanford does, then by losing to that coach, and by watching that coach take Stanford to The Rose Bowl two out of three times.

Just saying.
