A KC Chiefs NFL Linebacker named Jovon Belcher reportedly and sadly killed his girlfriend this morning, then drove to the Kansas City Practice Field and committed suicide.

According to CBS’ Jason LaConfora, it was reported by Police spokesman Darin Snapp that law enforcement officials received a 911 call Saturday morning from a woman who said her daughter had been shot multiple times at a residence about five miles away from the Arrowhead Stadium complex. Snapp said a call was then received from the Chiefs’ practice facility.

Jovon Belcher seemingly had everything to live for. According to his Facebook fan page, he just became a father on September 11th and to Zoey Michelle Belcher, a bouncing baby girl at 7.35lbs. He came into the NFL as an undrafted rookie in 2009, and made the team. Belcher’s hard work at Middle Linebacker earned him a large fan base, and eventually a job as a starter.

When Belcher arrived at the practice facility, both Chiefs GM Scott Pioli and Head Coach Romeo Crennel saw him outside of it. He thanked them for their friendship and leadership, then pulled out a gun and shot himself.

That has got to be the single most awful thing for anyone to witness. Prayers to both Pioli and to Crennel.

It used to be that the way we as blacks were brought up in the Church, taking ones life was not even in the space of thought. This is a sad turn, as it also means we have a generation, a new one, that is less likely to have a spiritual grounding that would not allow the consideration of suicide.

Stay tuned.
