Zazzle Bay to Breakers is less than one week from Sunday, and I’m excited. Without any further ado, let’s look at the trio of men who lead the field of runners for the 101st running of the World’s Largest Footrace:

Meb Keflezighi
Sammy Kitwara
Direba Merga

Meb Keflezighi comes back for for the second time at the Zazzle Bay to Breakers. The favorite to medal at the Summer Olympics in London, Meb is also one of the fastest runners in Bay To Breakers history, but not faster than the blazing Sammy Kitwara.

It was Sammy Kitwara who set and still holds the Zazzle Bay to Breakers course record of 33:31, and this blogger was there to watch it. I wrote then, and I’ll repeat that I’ve never personally seen a man run that fast in my life. Here’s Sammy, along with fellow record holder Lineth Chepkurui (38:07 in 2010), talking with me at the 98th Bay To Breakers:

Finally, for the men, we have Direba Merga, the runner up at last year’s Zazzle Bay to Breakers and the winner of the Boston Marathon of 2009. Will he win this year? Can he challenge Sammy and Meb? We shall see.

The Bay To Breakers Press Conference is this Friday. Follow my live stream of the event here at Zennie62.com

Stay tuned.
