Rick Bolander says Facebook’s purchase of Instagram is an anomaly in the tech, Social Media space. In the third installment of my interview with the Managing Partner of Gabriel Venture Partners, Mr. Bolander explains his reasons for such a position. “Gabriel will never invest based on an anomaly,” he said. Moreover, Bolander observes that the Facebook / Instagram deal was more a product of building and maintaining relationships, and a little luck, than any real technical advantage Instagram offered other than the size of its user base.
That said, Bolander holds that the deal will change perceptions of how much value a social media company can create in very little time.
