I am a little embarrassed to say this being the social media consultant that I am but I had no idea that those funny posters with captions were called Memes.
I like to blame it on my ESL. There is a lot about basic American Culture that I don’t know about so I am also ASC, American Second Culture. Whenever a classic rock n’roll song hits the radio, I’m like ‘who sings this?’ and my white bf looks at me like ‘are you kidding me?’ No, I am not kidding you! I am Latina I grew up around Sabado Gigante, Primer Impacto, El Chesperito http://tv.univision.com/sabado-gigante/
Last night I was at a going away party for a friend who is also a minority women and a social media consultant and also did not know that these funny posters we’re called Memes. We came to the conclusion that meme’s are a white people thing and as first generation Americans at times we get lost in the translation of American sarcasm. And don’t really ‘get it’.
There are a lot of things about white people culture I don’t get see complete list here: http://stuffwhitepeoplelike.com/full-list-of-stuff-white-people-like/
Each culture has their “thing” and as long at it’s hurting anyone- meme on!
